Getting on Track for 2016 - My Fitness Goals

Hi friends!  Today I’m going to talk about something I usually don’t mention on the blog, mainly fitness.  When it comes to staying fit, I feel like I kind of dropped the ball in 2015, and especially the last 6 months.  I have gained at least 15 lbs. since August.  Some people might look at me and say they don’t see it.  But I can tell!  Especially because I am busting out of most of my pants right now.  And let me tell you, there is nothing that can motivate a girl to get fit like not fitting into her clothes.  I mean, seriously, I’m not trying to have to go out and buy all of my pants in a size bigger!  And I don’t really make New Year’s Resolutions per say.  But I have made a goal for myself to get fit in 2016.  I want to feel better, look better, and fit comfortably into my clothes.  And I have to say, a little trip to LA coming up in June is helping motivate me to start taking my fitness a little more seriously!  Today, I am going to share a little about my fitness plan, and how I am using Jif Peanut Powder to help me tackle my goals!

New Year New You; My Exercise Plan
I recently jumped back on the wagon with exercising, and I am really enjoying it!  Well, as much as this couch-potato-by-nature-girl can possibly enjoy exercise, anyway.  I recently joined a new fitness studio called Main Street Fitness (for all of you locals reading this).  Here is what I love about this place – it’s not a traditional “gym”.  There is no equipment at all, as a matter of fact.  It is a place that just has different types of fitness and exercise classes.  That is perfect for me, because I have always been a class type of girl when it comes to exercise.  Since I am not one to enjoy exercise, I find it motivates me so much more if I sign up for a class, and write it down on my schedule.  Another great thing about this place is that you only pay for the classes you actually attend, and that works for me!  I don’t feel like I am wasting my money here at all!

My favorite class is Barre, and I am planning to take this class 2-3 times per week.  I have also tried the Pyo class and really liked it, and most recently the RIPPED class, which I plan to go back to at least once per week.  They also have some other classes I want to try, and the best part is that you can try any class they offer for the first time for free!  If you are local and you want to know more about Main Street Fitness, just click the link and you can read all about it on the website!  If you aren’t local, I am fairly certain you can find something similar in your area that offers classes you might be interested in taking.  And if classes like this aren’t your jam, there are other options, like joining a regular gym, cross fit, running, walking, or even videos.  Right now my plan is to go to a class at least three times per week.  And when the weather is good enough I will also walk in addition.

New Year New You: Food
I wouldn’t say that I am “on a diet”.  What I would say is that I am trying to make better choices and be more conscious about what I am putting into my body.  For starters, I will admit that my eating habits were horrible from August until right after the Holidays.  Especially when I was at work.  I don’t know what it is, but there is something about being at work and sitting at my desk that makes me hungry.  And I was loading up on junk food and sweets in particular way more that I should have been.  It must be something psychological that when I am at work I am hungry much more than when I am at home.  So for the most part, I am cutting way back on sweets and junk food, and trying to eat more foods that I know are good for me.  I loaded up some good for me snack options to have on hand at work, I am packing my lunch more and eating school lunch way less, and just generally trying to make better choices.  I am also trying to eat things that are more filling in the mornings to help stave off that hunger, and that is where the Jif Peanut Powder comes into play!

We are a peanut butter loving family, and when we heard about the new Jif peanut powder, we were so excited to try it!  It has the same amount of nourishing protein as traditional peanut butter, but with 85% less fat!  Jif Peanut Powder is made with just one ingredient - fresh roasted peanuts!  No added sugar or salt.  And the Jif chocolate peanut powder contains semi sweet chocolate and a dash of sugar.   We have been experimenting with both the regular Jif Peanut Powder, and the chocolate Peanut powder, and today I’m so excited to share some of our favorite ways to use it!

Low Fat Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies- these aren’t your average cookie, they don’t have any white sugar, instead they have applesauce and brown sugar.  and they don’t taste rich and decadent like some cookies that are loaded with sugar and fat, but they are really good, and I don’t feel guilty to have one or two at all.  And my husband, who is a peanut butter fanatic, loves them!  With the peanut powder and the oats, these cookies are a great breakfast cookie and easy to make on the weekends, and then grab a couple on your way out the door for work.  Forewarning, you need to chill this cookie dough for a couple of hours before baking.

2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup applesauce
4 Tbs Jif Peanut Powder
1 cup oat flour ( just grind up some oatmeal in a food processor or blender to make your own, I did!)
3/4 cup old fashioned oats

beat eggs, brown sugar and vanilla together with a whisk
In a separate bowl mix together applesauce and Jif Peanut powder, and after mixed, combine with the other mixture
add oat flour and stir until moist
add oatmeal and stir until combined
chill for 2 hours
preheat oven to 350 degrees
scoop chilled dough onto greased cookie sheet (I got about 13 cookies out of this batch)
let cool and enjoy!

In addition to the cookies, this Jif Peanut Powder and chocolate peanut powder is amazing to use in smoothies!  I have a trio of smoothies that I will share with you today, and all three are delicious and simple to make.  I make my smoothies in a smoothie maker.  My son bought me this for Christmas a couple of years ago, and I really love it!

Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal Smoothie- At first I thought, oatmeal in a smoothie, really?  But then I decided to give it a try because oatmeal is filling, and that is what I need to get me going in the mornings, and to keep me away from snacking so much at work.  And this smoothie is so good, you can’t even taste the oatmeal in it!  I like to take our bananas that are a tad too ripe, and cut them in chunks and freeze them in a ziplock bag.  They are great for making smoothies, and if the bananas are already frozen, you don’t even need ice!

1 cup of almond milk
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup oatmeal
1 Tbs honey
2 Tbs peanut powder
1 tsp vanilla extract

Blend all ingredients together in a blender until smooth, and drink immediately, enjoy!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie- This one is probably my favorite, and I drank that whole glass you see pictured immediately after I finished taking these pictures!  Yum!

2 frozen chunked up bananas
1 cup almond milk
2 Tbs Jif Chocolate peanut powder
2 Tbs Jif Peanut Powder
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp honey

Blend until smooth and drink immediately.  Enjoy!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie- This one is also great, and was probably my husband’s favorite.  He doesn’t really like things that have banana in them, and I do, so this one was for him.  Because he loves peanut butter!  And although I didn’t add it, he claims that throwing in a couple of scoops of his protein would have made this smoothie even more perfect, so if you drink protein drinks like he does, feel free to throw in a couple of scoops of it!

2 cups of ice
1 cup of almond milk
2 Tbs Jif Chocolate Peanut Powder
1 Tbs Jif Peanut Powder
2 tsp honey

Blend all ingredients in blender until smooth.  enjoy!

I found my Jif Peanut Powder at my local Walmart in the same aisle with all of the peanut butter and jelly products, right on the top shelf!  I am just so excited about this Peanut Butter because I can enjoy the yummy peanut butter taste  now without all of the fat in regular peanut butter.  I plan to make a lot more smoothies to take with me to work, and Jif Peanut Powder is perfect to use in my smoothies.  I am so happy for the opportunity to share Jif Peanut powder with you today, because I am really excited about, and even more so because when it comes to Peanut butter, I am a die hard Jif user.  I absolutely do not buy any other brand, and never have.  Jif is a brand that I trust when it comes to PB!
