Underwareness–Crush the Stigma!

Underwareness Campaign

Let's talk about bladder leakage!  Do you or someone you know experience bladder leakage?  Are you embarrassed or ashamed to talk about it?  Well if the answer is yes, that is exactly why I am writing this post today!  It is time to crush that stigma!  Have you heard about the drop your pants for undewareness movement?  If not, then I am glad you are reading this today, because Depend is entering it's second year of this social movement and charitable cause to break down the bladder leakage stigma.

Well, I don't know about you, but as a 40 something year old woman, I want to help crush that stigma!  And I am not ashamed to let the whole world know that I have experienced bladder leakage.  And I am not alone.  Over 51 million American women have experienced bladder leakage.  That's 1 in 3 women, people!  And you might be surprised to know that more people in their 20's experience bladder leakage than people in their 80's.  The average age of someone with bladder leakage is 52.  But I know from personal experience that it can and does happen much younger than that.

You see, I have three children.  And I first experienced bladder leakage the first time I was pregnant, at age 26.  Any time I would laugh really hard, or sneeze, it happened.  Even if I had just emptied my bladder.  It was horrifying!  And each and every time I was pregnant, the same thing happened.  How many of you women out there who have been pregnant have had this problem?  I would love to see an explosion of comments to this story- please share with me if you have had similar problems. Every comment made helps to crush that stigma!

Not only did I experience bladder leakage when I was pregnant though.  I have also been experiencing it in the last year or so.  I have noticed that my capacity to "hold it" has diminished to the point that if I don't go at the first sign that I need to, I might have an accident.  Yes, it has happened.  And the funny thing is, I was telling one of my best friends, who is my age, about this recently, and she told me the same exact thing has been happening to her!  That really helped me to feel not so alone.

So, here's the good news.  Depend is not just for old people!  The new Depend Active Fit Silhouette briefs are made for active women, like me!  These are excellent for bladder leakage protection.  They feature a cloth like fabric that is smooth under clothes.  You can put them on, even under leggings, and no one will be the wiser!  They have a lower rise for an underwear like look, fit and feel.  And they come in two colors, beige and black.

So I want to encourage women everywhere to show your support for women with bladder leakage. For every photo and video shared using #Undewareness, and featuring depend products, the Depend brand will donate $1, up to $3 million, through 2016 to fund charities that advance the research and education of bladder leakage.

So come on ladies, drop your pants for #Underwareness!  I did!
