Shopping for Men's Shoes

I don't know about you, but the men in my house are hard on shoes.  Running shoes get worn out around here like nobody's business, so we buy several pairs per year.  On top of that, LC has to wear dress shoes on a daily basis, so he needs shoes to match all of his suits.  And then he also needs casual shoes to wear with jeans.  Mr. 14 year old collects various types of sneakers and high tops, and he also likes to have cool casual shoes to wear with jeans.  So men's shoes are a frequent topic of conversation, and we spend quite a bit of money on them.

New shoes are always on the Christmas shopping list.  So I thought I would show you some shoe styles that the men in our house are liking right now.  These are just a few of the styles of shoes that LC and Mr. 14 Year Old are liking right now.   I love these type of boots with jeans or casual pants. Mr. 14 Year old has this type of boot on his Christmas list this year.

J.Crew - Classic MacAlister boots in suede

For a more rugged, casual boot, I love these Dr. Martins!

I love Oxford shoes for men!  LC owns a pair almost exactly like this.  Unfortunately, I can't find his exact pair online.  I think these shoes give a man wearing a suit a little stylish flair.

And then of course there is the classic loafer.  This is a casual version of the loafer that both LC and Mr. 14 Year Old love.
GRAB: STEVE MADDEN

Mr. 14 Year Old has a pair of shoes very similar to this.  He even wears them with sweat pants.  He loves them!

And of course, let's not forget the running shoes!  I honestly would consider that my son is probably an expert on running shoes.  In case you did not know, he is an avid runner.  He runs both track  and cross country, and pretty much runs 12 months per year.  These are the shoes he is running in right now.  He probably gets a new pair every 4 months or so.

Constantly updating your wardrobe to fit the seasons and the styles is exhausting. For the most part, men have it easier than women when it comes to timeless fashion choices, but not always. Just think back on tab lapels from the 70's, or pleated slacks from the 90’s. Shoes are much easier to select a style that will look great for years to come, since many of the most popular styles have been around in one form or another for more than 200 years.

I feel like men need to spend more money that women neccessarily do on shoes.  They don't own as many pairs though, so it all pretty much evens out.  But a good quality shoe for a man is going to last them a lot longer.  LC wears the same few pairs of dress shoes with his suits every day, and then when he wears them out, he gets new ones.  So a quality dress shoe, for him, is going to last him a lot longer.

If you are hesitant to throw down more than $200 on a pair of shoes that might go out of style, go simple and safe with a sleek pair of oxfords. If treated well, this style of shoe will see you right for a decade or more.
